Primary Seven with Miss Taylor & Mrs Stuart

Welcome to the Primary 7 web page.  This will be updated regularly and will tell you what we're doing and anything that is coming up.  The current class newsletter, class timetable and monitor rota are at the bottom of this page.

There are lots of Primary 7 leaders.  These include House Captains, Pupil Council, PE Monitors, Toilet Monitors, Compost Bin Collectors, Office Monitors, ICT Leaders, Buddies, ECO Monitors, PE Monitors and a Flag Bearer.

Primary 7 wear grey jumpers so you will be able to spot us a mile away!  If you have any questions then please just ask and we will try to help you - we are learning to be indepedent in primary seven, so we do lots of independent reasearch, collabortaive working and self and peer assessment.

The first project this year was The Scottish Parliament.  This was really successful.  We visited the parliament and leaned lots about Parliament, Politics and Laws.  We had some interesting debates, had the opportunity to ask an MSP Dr Ian McKee some questions and also research some local issues that we felt passionately about.

This is a display of our mock election.  For the mock election we got into 4 different parties and each member of the party had a different job to do.  The candidate had the job of coordinating the party and delegating tasks.  The groups worked very well together producing an election campaign including posters, leaflets, banners, and rosettes.  On election day, each party did their speech along with their election propaganda and PowerPoint’s.  P4, P5 and P6 voted for their favourite party who canvassed for the issues that they agreed with most.  The winner was announced over the loud speaker - the winner was.....The Future Party - candidate  - Carlene Cooper.  What a fantastic project.

Our current topic is World War Two, along with Air Resistance in Science.  We are really getting into our World War II topic and are currently doing our own independent research as homework.  We are trying to be thematic and incorporate WWII into all areas - we will be doing some war time dances and we have been learning some music that helped keep spirits high during the war.  Robert brought into his Granddad’s ration book for the class to see.  It is so interesting

Primary 7 also organised the 2 minute silence for Armistice Day - 11 o'clock on the 11th day of the 11th month.  All children and adults observed this and remembered all those who fought so that we could be free.  This is a photo of Major Johnston with us - he explained why we wear the poppy and why we remember on 11/11.

Homework will now to be issued on a Tuesday and returned on a Friday.  P.E. is on a Friday with Mrs Martin and our football coaching session is on a Thursday.  Please make sure you have your gym shoes in school at all times and a pair of trainers for our Thursday football session!

We have been watching short podcasts of the news regularly as we are building up our skills in reporting and increasing our knowledge of current affairs.  The link to newsround is here - this is a fantastic webpage with lots of resources to keep you busy at home and will mean that you are up to date with the latest news and interesting facts.

Primary 7 are also busy conducting tours at Craigmillar Castle, as Junior Tour Guides, for other school classes and community groups.  We have done quite a few now - they are going very well indeed - we have received excellent feedback.  All the hard work is now worth it!  If you would like a tour, please fill out the booking form on the front page of our website.  Tours are free!  The photo above is of some tour guides in the castle prison...it's a damp, dark, terrible place...

Please look at the class timetable, class newsletter and monitor rota below.  P7's have so many jobs and leadership roles within the school that they have to be up to date with the timetables.
