Castleview Primary School

A School for Your child

We think that Castleview Primary is a wonderful school and we know that you will want your child to join our school family!

We enclose some information about how you can enrol your child in our school.

When to enrol your child

For entry to P1 for August 2010, you should enrol during registration week which is 24 November 2009. If you move to the area after this date, please contact us at the earliest opportunity to ensure your child is registered for P1 in 2010.

If you have a child who requires a P1-7 place throughout the school year please contact the school and we will allocate your child a place subject to availability.

For entry into Castleview's Nursery Class, you can place your child's name on a waiting list after his or her second birthday. Nursery Schools are not managed by catchment area, therefore you are free to select Castleview as your first choice but places will be allocated subject to availability.

Parental Preference

Parents and Carers have a right to express a preference for a particular school and many parents wish to choose Castleview for their child even when it is not their catchment school.  The City of Edinburgh Council will accomodate this whenever possible.

If you have a pre-school child and Castleview is your catchment school you should make an appointment with Headteacher Lindsey Robertson on week beginning 24 November 2009. By the end of April 2010 you will be informed of allocated places. Places are not allocated until demand is assessed against the number of places at individual schools.

This does mean that children moving into Castlview's catchment area after this date may find that there are no immediately available places, although your child would be placed on a waiting list.  Parents and Carers should note that it is City of Edinburgh's Department of Children and Families' Staff who  allocate P1 places and not Castleview Staff. The priorities for allocation are:

  1. Children living within the Castleview Catchment Area.
  2. Children with brothers or sisters already at Castleview Primary School.
  3. How close your home is to our school.

If Castleview Primary is not your catchment area school, you still may make an  outwith district application for your child to attend Castleview. Application forms are held in the school office.

To support parents a link to the streets which form the Castleview Catchment Area is attached,
